British Field Day
Grander Than Ever
This year's British Field Day was a resounding success, by all quantitative and qualitative measures. Quantitatively, there were more vehicles shown (150), more paid attendees (nearly 1,000), and more charitable proceeds ($1,000 over last year).
The Utah British Bike Club turned out in force, displaying many fine bikes. One of the best examples, in the editors opinion was his bike. (shown) Qualitatively, it was lots of fun, with Mini's chasing Rovers chasing Loti (plural of Lotus) 'round the cones, and tall tales being swapped about Lucas semi-conductors, Whitworth crescent wrenches, and the cosmic import (yes, they are all imported) of positive ground ignition systems.
Sharon Forster, BFD Governess General, heartily thanks all exhibitionists (oops, exhibitors), attendees, and especially volunteers and sponsors for pushing this one Over The Top.
She promises a still grander event next year, including innovations such as a new, larger venue, and Sponsors Choice Trophies for cars or 'cycles that catch the eyes of our esteemed financial underwriters.
Gentlemen (and ladies): start your buffing machines!
The Count of Monte Cristo
... was 13, on the June 21 Monte Cristo Run, that is. Fearless leader Bill Walton lead a soggy sortie from the Hogle Zoo parking lot up East Canyon to Big Mountain Summit, where the rain REALLY started coming down. Even those who pooh-poohed rain protection (Gary Lindstrom with undeployed side curtains, Bob and Valerie Lux with a topless MGA) sought all means of refuge (see photo), while Floyd and Kathy Inman sat toasty and dry in their Ford pickup (Hyacinth stayed home). Defrosters and heaters were given rigorous tests in the down hill run to Morgan, where the rain let up a bit. After CICO (coffee in, coffee out), the troupe pressed on to Mountain Green, whence up Trappers Loop, via Snow Basin, to Huntsville.
The cozy ambiance of the Shootin' Star Saloon raised spirits, despite the stern warning "We reserve the right to serve refuse to any one." Star burgers (don't ask what's in them) and some of the local wine (from barley, via Colorado), elevated spirits for the final push to Monte Cristo Summit. There several attendees marveled at how much greener and warmer (despite the cool day) the spot was in comparison with the lunch stop four weeks earlier on the Jackson Memorial Day Run.
Most cars returned home by retracing the route over East Canyon to Hogle Zoo, though some peeled off at I-84 and sped home drafting 18-wheelers.
Earning BMCU loyalty stars were Bill Walton, Gary Lindstrom, Floyd and Kathy Inman, Mark and Joyce Noeltner, Larry Farrington, Stephanie Arceneaux, Bob and Valerie Lux, Tony Walker, Wade Ashby, and Chris Shell.

BMCU Amazzes Taylorsville Dayzz
BMCUers made a fine showing at the Taylorsville Dayzz parade on June 28th. The event was a typical small town parade with politicos, high school bands and drill teams, fire engines, floats, and enterprising local business folks, including insurance agents, chiropractors, funeral directors etc. parading their specialties. We particularly liked the medical clinic with docs in white shirts and ties, wearing Miss Congeniality like sashes labeled with their specialties, e.g., Radiology, Oncology, Proctology (just joking on that one). After the parade run, which was both hot (meteorologically) and warm (sociologically), the caravan parked in the Taylorsville City Park for informal public inspection (of the cars). A pleasant surprise along the way was the appearance of a Bentley saloon said to be recently imported from the Philippines, where it was in diplomatic service. It is in beautiful condition, and all original, except for the mega-watt sound system now consuming the entire, sizeable, boot. The Dayzz organizers profusely thanked BMCU for participating, and promised more attention to the car show aspect next year, with perhaps even prizes. We're hoping for sashes. Participating were Steve Nelson, Jon Hermance, Gary Lindstrom, Bill Walton, Kendall and Connie Dewsnup, John and Debi Brozovich, Bill Griffith, John and Marie Weibel, Mark and Joyce Noeltner, Dave and Carol Marks, Steve and Cheryl Bender, and the event leaders, Floyd and Kathy
Inman.
Trial Lake Run
July 12 is the date for the Trial Lake Run -- and we'll make it, come rain or come shine. This will be the second or third time we've done this run, and it's always been good picnic weather. It's about a quarter mile gentle walk down from the Trial Lake Dam to a pretty picnic spot near some waterfalls and small cliffs where we will stop for lunch. We'll be meeting at the Walmart store at Kimball Junction, I-80 Park City exit 145, at 9:30 am. Don't be late!

BMCU Night at the Stingers
July 23
Through the generosity of Skool Lunch and Baileys Service, free tickets are available to BMCU members and family for the Salt Lake Stingers vs. Tucson Sidewinders baseball game at Franklin Covey Field, 7pm Wed. July 23.
The tickets are for general reserved seats, and must be redeemed for specific seats at the box office the night of the game. In order to increase the chances of being able to sit together, we will rendezvous outside the stadium 6:30-6:45pm on game night.
For tickets, contact Gary Lindstrom, phone 801-532-1259, email gary@cs.utah.edu, fax 801-606-2837. No, there won't be any car display, so leave your Britmobile at home -- unless it's your daily driver!
