Despite the Heat: Trappers Loop a Big Success!

Saturday, July 15th began as a fantastic day to enjoy the weather, the scenery, some good friends and LBC’s.

22 cars showed up for the annual run to Trappers Loop carrying nearly 40 people. We met at Hogle Zoo and spent a little time catching up and getting acquainted with the members of the Italian Motor Club of Utah who brought a Fiat 124 and an absolutely beautiful Alfa-Romeo GTV 1750 along for the ride.

We then tooled on up Emigration & East canyons, once again dodging the bicyclists all along the way. (This must be the favorite weekend for cyclists in these canyons.) We arrived in Morgan just as the weather would really begin to heat up and stopped for a drink and to give everyone a chance to stretch their legs. I think we created the first mass traffic jam of English cars ever seen in this fair town, but a number of people came over to ooh & aahh over our little mobile museum and offered some very nice comments.

It was after we left Morgan that we had evidently unknowingly created a new event within the event. Our Governor General apparently had some unfinished business in the lew of the Chevron station. Everyone else was outside standing around discussing the heat and ready to get going again. It looked as if everyone was there, so………………..we all left, not knowing that poor Mitch was not with the group. We have now created “ditch the Gov.” as the latest way to entertain ourselves at all future events. (Sorry Mitch, I really didn’t know!)

We headed toward Snow Basin after leaving Morgan and it was on the way up the hill on Trappers Loop that I was passed by a screaming blur of red motion that left me thinking ,I could’ve had a V-8, that told me that Mike Scoggins’ engine rebuild, balance & overdrive rebuild on his TR6 was money well spent. They were waiting at Snow Basin and had been there for some time by the time we arrived.

It was a nice jaunt down SR226 to Pine View Reservoir and on to The Oaks where the staff once again did an admirable job of seating and feeding us in a timely manner. Our thanks goes out to them.

Triumph was the dominant marque this year with 9 cars present including 3 TR6, 3 Spitfires, a TR4, a TR250 and a TR7 Spyder. MG’s were represented by 4 MGA’s, a Midget and a BGT. A nice surprise was the presence of 2 Lotuses, a ’77 Elise and a newer Elan. We also had a newer Mini and the aforementioned Italian contingent.

A special thanks goes out to Gar Hendry and his family who represented the Great Basin Rovers and agreed to be the chase vehicle at the last hour, driving their ’97 Land Rover Discovery.

In attendance were: John & Barbara Progess, Mike & Mary Scoggins, Mitch & Greg Johnson, Rob & John Foye, Larry & Margaret Farrington, Steve Miller & Mary Rook, Kirsten Larson & Per Erjen, Roger Dotson & Jamie Monroe, Kent & Janet Topham, Mark Bleiweiss, The Prochaski’s, Chuck Easton, Mike & Becky Chambers, John Perry, Rich Davis, Jeff Greenland ,Clayton & Sharon Merchant & Gar Hendry & Family. Representing The Italian Motor Club of Utah were Grant White, Ronan Glon & Jamison Pexton.

Thanks to everyone who attended and to those who were unable to make it, you were missed!
