British Field Day Shines At Liberty Park

Despite of, or perhaps because of, the venue change to Liberty Park, the 2006 edition of British Field Day on June 24 was a grand success. Over 105 cars and 26 motorcycles graced the greenery on this 15th renewal of the charity event, right under the signs " Do Not Park Vehicles on the Grass " (we had a special dispensation).

Bill Davis and his committee did a great job adapting the Field Day formula to the new site, benefiting from the more shady, spacious, and safe (to oblivious pedestrians) surroundings. There was even a cricket pitch set up to indoctrinate young wannabe Brits to the antecedent of our baseball.

Many, many fine cars were on display, including MGs, Triumphs, Austin-Healeys, Morgans, Sunbeams, Jaguars, Lotuses (Loti?), Rovers, Land Rovers, and even a spectacular 30's Rolls-Royce drop head coupe.

It's too soon for a financial report, but from all indications the event was a great popular and box office success. The committee did admit to two glitches on this inaugural event in Liberty Park, concerning T-shirts and the raffle. This year's commemorative T-shirts were not produced in time, but will be printed and sold to all those who express interest, for $15 each. The motif is a British bull dog draped in a Union Jack; those who have seen it say it is one of the best ever. If you are interested, please contact Gary Lindstrom (801-532-1259 voice, 801-606-2837 fax, email gary@cs.utah.edu) giving your name, address, phone number, the number you want and which sizes.

The second infelicity involved the raffle, which was not conducted as expected that afternoon. For technical reasons (including some folks not being asked to write their contact information on each ticket stub), the raffle is being done after the event, when all possible detective work is applied to ticket owners. Winners will be contacted, if known -- otherwise, winning numbers will be posted on this web page. Prizes may be picked up at the London Market on 7th East near Trolley Square.

Finally, Bill and the committee solicit volunteers to join them in planning next year's event. So, if you particularly enjoyed this year's Field Day -- or if you have ideas to improve next year's -- contact Bill Davis at Great Basin Rovers, 801-486-5049, or GBRovers@aol.com.

Bill Davis reports that the raffle winners were: Rich Goodman (7 winning tickets), Steve Miller (1), Dave Maxwell (3), Mitch Johnson (8), Mike Chambers (10), Gordon Lymon (4, could be Lyman), Ernie Reno (4), Jim T. (4), Gary Lindstrom (4), J. Hanson (6), Lynn Moore (1), Sheree Marcus (2), Dana Johnson (1), Steve Chard (4), Dave Munk (2), Lanny Moore (1).
